After our lunch at Mali Restaurant, we passed by this Bistro along the street of Sathorn Soi 1 and thought of visiting and trying their food.  We did!  We had lunch after a couple of days and tried their pasta and salads and of course the never ending Ice Tea.

This bistro has an extensive menu with plenty of Western dishes and local Thai food as well and I find the place very relaxing and cozy enough to have a quiet conversation while eating.  But, if you are planning to have that quiet conversation, visit during day time or an early evening dinner.  At night they have live bands playing at the second floor which I find it too noisy where the band plays Thai Pop music.

Anyway, before I bore you with my observations here are some of the dishes that we had during our lunch. 

Crab on the Green – THB 300/- (US$9/-)

- Fresh green salad with soft shell crab and finished with a balsamic dressing.

Shrimps on the Green – THB 300/- (US$9/-)

- Fresh green salad with grilled shrimps and finished with a balsamic dressing.

Tom Kha Chicken Fettuccini – THB 240/- (US$9/-)

- Fettuccini with chicken, coconut milk and Tom Kha spice.

A cozy ambience.  Who’s that customer in the mirror?  Oh I forgot, they cater to all ages. (peace you’ll) hahaha

As you can see, Happy Hours starts at 6:00 PM.

Arrived morning in Bangkok on the 17^th of September 2009, I and my friend were starving after an almost eight hour flight from Dubai.  We got to the hotel and just changed clothes and went straight to our favorite restaurant in Bangkok, where else?  Mali Restaurant.  This is the restaurant that everytime we are in Thailand, we never missed to visit.

Of course we’ve been welcomed by the American owner Peter and their very nice waiter “Joey” from Burma.

Here are some of the dishes we ordered:

Tom Yum Goong (Shrimp or Prawns because of the size?) my favorite Thai dish.  Oh my, I can’t wait to be in Thailand again.  Love their food……

Grilled Chicken.

Sea Bass cooked with lemon in a very artistic way of cooking. The bottom of the plate have coals, so while I was eating it, it was smoking hahaha…

Bed Supper Club is a ‘dining in bed’ experience in a futuristic Jetsons like bar. The decor of the club is a shocking white, which gives the place an ambient and classy looking. The interior design and a state-of-the-art integrated sound and lighting system make Bed Supper Club a hotspot not to be missed by the elite and not so. 

The club caters not only to the musical tastes but also tickles your palates. Dinner is served only once and therefore you have to be punctual and reach before 8:30 p.m. During the week you are handed a selection of the chef’s specials for the evening.  Unfortunately, we came after 1AM where it is still full packed until 3 AM.

Thai and international DJ’s spin different tunes every night of the week. If you feel drained out after groovin’ to the music, then feel free to take your shoes off, lie down and make yourself at home.  That is why it’s called BED Supper Club; you can slouch on the bed and relax (see photo below). Just a tip, making out is not allowed. But if you can get away with it, why not! Hahaha….

The cover charge was THB 800.00 ($US23.00) and that includes two free drinks. A glass of Vodka-Lime would cost you about THB 400.00 ($US11.00) and that is so outrageously costly for a glass of liquor, it will take lots of that to get you intoxicated and to dance all night long.  What I suggest is to fill up your engine before you go there and just enjoy dancing….

And one more note is you must be 20 years old to get in to the club and don’t forget to carry an ID to get in.  Well, in our case I wasn’t but because of my friend’s quick wit, I got in.  You want to know how?  Leave a message and I will reply to it.

After seeing Ayutthaya Historical Park, had a chance to see the market and all I bought was a Durian Chips which I was munching while window shopping.  Oh I almost forgot, I also bought a Hammock (Duyan in Tagalog) made from cloth for a mere THB150 ($US4.50) unfortunately never took a picture of it.

Anyway, here are some photos that you might like to see.

The trip I had last September-October 2009 in Thailand was my fourth one since the first time I went there in 2003 and this is one of the best trips I had in Thailand.  It was my first time in Chiang Mai and the historical place of Ayutthaya, the ancient city of Thailand.  The trip we had in Ayutthaya was just for a day, but it was fun.  Had a chance to ride on an elephant while touring the park (and smelled the elephant poop), seen the ancient ruins, and seen some weird looking Tuktuks, and not to mention that I took almost a thousand photos, hey I am not that photo freak okay I just love taking photos. J

I wouldn’t be able to see lots of places in Thailand or any part of the world if it weren’t for my best friend Lew.  I have been travelling and have seen some places alone but it is really fun if you have friend/s to travel with.  If I’m alone, I would be lazy all day and probably just stayed in the hotel room. Lol…

Here’s a background story about the Kingdom of Ayutthaya taken from Wikipedia.org and some photos I took.

Ayutthaya was a Siamese kingdom that existed from 1351 to 1767 until it was invaded by the Burmese. Ayutthaya was friendly towards foreign traders, including the Chinese, Vietnamese (Annam), Indians, Japanese and Persians, and later the Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch and French, permitting them to set up villages outside the city walls. In the sixteenth century, it was described by foreign traders as one of the biggest and wealthiest cities in the East. The court of King Narai (1656-1688) had strong links with that of King Louis XIV of France, whose ambassadors compared the city in size and wealth to Paris. Before Ayutthaya fell to the Burmese invasion in 1767, its vassals included the Northern Shan states of present-day Myanmar, Lanna (Chiang Mai, Thailand), Yunnan & Shan Sri (China), Lan Xang (Laos), Champa (Vietnam), and some city-states in the Malay Peninsula.

According to foreign accounts, Ayutthaya Kingdom was officially known as Siam but many sources also said Ayutthaya people called themselves as Tai of Krung Tai, or the Kingdom of the Tais.

Do you want to save money on your taxi fare when you arrive at the Suvarnabhumi (pronounced as sùwannáp?m) Airport in Thailand?  I guess you do.

The average amount an Airport Taxi charge from the airport to Bangkok is from THB 1,200 to THB 1,500.  To avoid this ridiculous amount and save money, go to the 4^th floor of the airport which is the Departure area and hail a taxi.  The taxi drivers always negotiate with a fixed rate around THB 500 but you always have the option to get a metered taxi which is the cheapest.  Just tell them you want a metered taxi.  Once you are in the Taxi, the driver will ask you if you want to go on a free way and avoid the traffic, but you have to pay the toll fee of about THB 65.  If you’re in a hurry, get that option but if not then enjoy the traffic and you can save few baht.

The last time I was there going to Bangkok, the taxi meter was only THB 241 + Toll gate fees of THB 65 = THB 306 (US$9.00).  I saved more than a thousand Baht which I can use for my Thai authentic massage. J

My last travel, I was in Thailand for two weeks and a week in the Philippines, and visited new places in both countries.

Here are some of the places that I visited that I may discuss in the coming days or weeks:

• Food trip in Thailand
• Clubbing in Bed Supper Club
• A whole day visit in Ayuttayah
• Two day Chiang Mai Trip
• Death March in Capas, Tarlac
• Air Supply Concert

That’s all I can think of right now but definitely will think more of the places that I’ve visited last time.

The next trip will be Dubai, Istanbul, Texas, Thailand and probably Philippines (New Year in Boracay).  I know this will be a tiring trip but I know it will be worth it.

Who would have thought that this blog that started January 2007 became a finalist on the last 2009 Philippines Blog Awards?  I only found out after a month-long vacation in Thailand and The Philippines; unfortunately the awarding ceremony was over.  A video of the awarding ceremony would be fun to watch and to emerge as a winner is the epitome of blogging happiness.  But I know there’s always next year and the year after that.  Who knows?
