The last time I visited Grand Palace in Bangkok was April 2003, that was more than five years ago.  That was the time I bought my first Samsung digital camera at the Dubai International Airport Duty Free and guess how big the megapixel is?  It’s a whopping 1.6MB hahaha….  Well, during that period only few people have digital cameras and I’m proud to be one of them. 

I went there October 14, 2008 and that day was a special day, woke up with a smile hahaha…. After I had lunch in Mali Restaurant I went to the Grand Palace for a visit.  Just an advice for the first time visitors of this country, make sure you visit this place, you won’t regret.  History always speaks for itself.

Here’s a brief history about Grand Palace.

According to Wikipedia, Grand Palace is a complex of buildings in Bangkok, Thailand. It served as the official residence of the king of Thailand from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. After the death of King Ananda Mahidol in the Grand Palace, King Bhumibol moved the official royal residence to Chitralada Palace. Construction of the palace complex began in 1782, during the reign of Rama I.

The palace complex sits on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River. The other approaches to the palace are protected by a defensive wall of 1,900 meters in length, which encloses an area of 218,400 square meters. Further out from the wall is a canal, which was also created for defensive purposes, making the area surrounding the palace an island, known as Rattanakosin.

It is also in the Grand Palace where the 1999 movie “Anna and the King” of Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat was filmed.  I remember that I watched that in a Cinema when I was had my vacation in the Philippines.

One of the reasons why I visited Grand Palace again was to get some good photos with my higher resolution camera and compare with the photos that I took with my 1.6MB.  Unfortunately, I can’t remember where I save those photos but once I found those I will create a post that compares the new and old.
